Manteca Police should all walk off the job

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

I think the day of reckoning is here for the police to react to. The city manager and the council are blackmailing the police in accepting more wage and give-backs to the city. The city police  association should call these wage predators, bluff and stick together and tell them, lay us all off, or none.

To do this, you’ve got to be ready to walk out. But the consequences if you don’t do this means your job might be next if you don’t support your fellow officers. It might not be the lower paid ones or seniority that will determine the next officers to go. A strong organization is the key factor in beating the council and city manager in making you the victims of Mayor Willie Weatherford’s welfare to the rich organization.

I consider Chief Dave Bricker as a fine man, but I think it’s time he fired back on the council’s attempt to dismantle an organization that has done so well for us. A strong leader should support his group 100%. There comes a time chief, when your men are looking for strong leadership qualities, to remain silent, is a declaration of non-support and your officers lose their respect for you. So it is time to back your men and stand up to these wage and benefit predators. Don’t remain victims, fight back and be men. When I was employed, I lost many a raise for speaking up for people.
