Without Measure M, we’d be worse off

Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

Dennis , you really hit a home run Sunday, your analysis of the Manteca Police pay dilemma is right on. Today’s economic realities make for some tough choices. I believe our city leaders, both the council and the administration headed by the city manager, have made the right tough choices and do not deserve the Manteca Police Officers Association trying to make them look the bad guys in these difficult times.

As chairman of the Measure M oversight committee, I know we have collected and spent the Public Safety Sales Tax wisely and have a better community for it. You’re absolutely right, to anyone who thinks that the Public Safety Sales tax is somehow the answer to the current problems - if not for Measure M, the problem would be far worse. Measure M was a wise choice when it was voted in and is an absolute success.

Manteca is doing much better than many California communities. We on the committee take our role seriously and make sure the money collected is spent as intended by the voters.

The real bad guys are the California legislators, especially (but not limited) to the party with all of the power, the Democrats. This entire group deserves to be fired by the voters as soon as possible. They have for many years refused to make tough choices and believe that stealing money and making gimmicks will somehow make the problems disappear. I have reached the conclusion that we could put all the voters’ names in a big hat and choose new legislators by a random draw with a reasonably good chance they would do a better job and certainly not a worse job than the current “gang”.

Thank you Dennis  - and don’t forget to applaud the six city employee group, especially the fire department, who believe in the city and understand we are all in this together and a small sacrifice by many is better than a huge sacrifice by a few.
