Serious crime drops 2.47% in Manteca during 2008

Felonies – crimes that involve inflicting great bodily harm or aggressive acts of stealing — dropped 2.47 percent in Manteca during 2008.
All but three of the FBI’s 12 Part One crimes that include everything from homicides and various categories of burglary to rape and assault fell according to the annual crime statistics report released by the Manteca Police Department.
The 12 Part One categories and how 2008 compared with 2007 were:
• homicides, remained unchanged at one.
• rape down 3.7 percent from 27 to 26.
• robbery up 12.5 percent from 72 to 81.
• aggravated assault down 27.45 percent from 102 to 74.
• commercial burglary down 13.13 percent from 160 to 139.
• residential burglary up 39.66 percent from 232 to 324.
• other burglaries down 31.71 percent from 41 to 28.
• auto burglaries down 2.1 percent from 713 to 698.
• grand theft up 7.61 percent from 289 to 311.
• vehicle theft down 14.71 percent from 374 to 321.
• arson down 65.38 percent from 26 to 9.
• all other felonies down 6.48 percent, from 633 to 592.
Misdemeanor thefts are down 9.86 percent from 811 in 2007 to 731 in 2008. All other misdemeanors dropped 10.19 percent from 3,670 in 2007 to 3,296 in 2008.
Miscellaneous offenses and how 2008 compared with 2007 were:
• total narcotic offenses up 18.41 percent from 527 to 624.
• total alcohol offenses down 3.29 percent from 761 to 739.
• total domestic violence down 17.23 percent from 441 to 365.
• total fraud and forgery down 7.52 percent from 452 to 418.
• total code enforcement down 37.5 percent from 48 to 30.
Non-criminal reports and services and how 2008 compared with 2007 were:
• non-criminal reports down 9 percent from 4,278 to 3,893.
• service requests down 2.95 percent from 38,412 to 36,279.
• written reports down 5.9 percent from 10,803 to 10,166.
• criminal complaint requests down 12.13 percent from 3,273 to 2,876.
• warrants served were down 20.4 percent from 2,108 to 1,678.
Accidents and how 2008 compared with 2007 were:
• total accidents down 22.17 percent from 911 to 709.
• property damage only accidents down 26.2 percent from 752 to 555.
• fatal accidents were up 150 percent, from 2 to 5.
• injury accidents were  down 11.54 percent from 156 to 138.
• hit and run accidents were down 35.98 percent from 164 to 105.
• driving while under the influence accidents were down 32.65 percent from 49 to 33.
Citations and how 2008 compared with 2007 were:
• total citation violations were up 1.44 percent from 10,649 to 10,802.
• driving while under the influence violations were up 1.95 percent from 308 to 314.
• moving violations were up 11.37 percent from 3,518 to 3,918.
• non-moving violations were down 0.09 percent from 3,210 to 3,207.
• child restraint violations were up 43.08 percent from 65 to 93.
• seat belt violations were up 27.76 percent from 371 to 474.
• all other violations were up 19.02 percent from 3,786 to 4,506.
• parking violations were up 15.4 percent from 2,916 to 3,365.
Thieves stole 15.59 percent more property going from $5,536,460 in 2007 to $6,399,846 in 2008. The amount of stolen property recovered by police was up 3.85 percent from $2,357,976 in 2007 to $2,448,644 in 2008. The percentage of stolen property — minus the value —recovered, though, dropped 10.16 percent.
Adult arrests were down 10.53 percent in 2008 to 3,491 as they dropped from 3,902 in 2007. Juvenile arrests were down 19.07 going from 430 in 2007 to 348 in 2008.
Pursuits in 2008 reached 35 in 2008, up from 28 in 2007 for a 25 percent increase. Use of force dropped 17.23 percent from 55 to 2007 to 48 in 2008.
