One pitch, one swing, one out and the Manteca 10-11 All Stars are one step closer to the District 67 championship.

Jacob DeJesus came in to pitch for Manteca with two outs in the top of the sixth inning Sunday with the bases loaded and the tying run at the plate for Tracy National. DeJesus threw one pitch and that turned into a fly for right fielder Tyler Kiser to haul in for the final out in a 7-3 Manteca win that sets up a winner-take-all rematch with Tracy National this afternoon at Lincoln Field.

Leading 2-1 going into the bottom of the fourth inning, Manteca used four straight hits to help score five runs. DeJesus (2-3, double, RBI) had an RBI double, Nico Alardi an RBI single, Vince Hernandez (2-3, double) a single and Nathan Gutierrez had the big hit of the frame with a two-RBI double. Kiser 2 for 3.

River Weahunt started on the hill for Manteca and went the five innings and allowed just one run.

Manteca needed to win Saturday’s consolation championship to land a slot in Sunday’s game and it did so by scoring in every inning and handing Salida an 11-7 defeat.

Gutierrez had the big bat for Manteca. He went 3 for 4 with a three-run home run and an RBI triple. Gutierrez batted cleanup and had support from the bottom of the order with No. 7 hitter Kiser going 2 for 3 with a triple and an RBI. Jacob DeFrenchi followed Kiser and went 2 for 2 with a double, two RBI and a walk. Ilardi was 2 for 3 with a walk.

DeJesus started at catcher for Manteca, moved to right field and even pitched – but he had the play of the game from right field. With no out in the fourth inning, Manteca leading 5-1 and a runner on first, DeJesus fielded a single to deep right and threw a frozen rope to third, cutting down the runner that was on first.

Salida ended the fourth with runners on second and third but did not score. Salida added three runs in the fifth and three more in the sixth but could not close the gap.

Tournament host Manteca and Tracy National meet for the championship this afternoon at 5:30 at Lincoln Park.
