Chester John Edwards
November 25, 1929-July 11, 2013

Chester “Chet” John Edwards, 83, of Manteca, California, passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 11, 2013, at his home.  He was surrounded by his loving family and close friends.
Chet was preceded in death by his wife, Diane E. Edwards, who was the love of his life.  Chet is survived by his son, John and his wife, Billie Edwards, of LeClaire, Iowa, and his daughter, Pamela, and her husband, Jerry Gibson, of Manteca, CA, four grandchildren, Nicholas Edwards, William Verver, Steven Verver, and Soquel Verver; two  great grandchildren, Jonathan and Landon Edwards, his sister, Jo Cardoza, and brother-in-laws, Richard Chase and Vernon Sullivan, and their extended familes.
Chet was born November 25, 1929, in Buckingham, Colorado, to John and Emma Edwards.  He graduated from Hayward High School in 1949.  On June 26, 1954, he married his high school sweet heart, Diane Elizabeth, and they enjoyed 57 years of cherished marriage.  They lived most of their lives in Manteca, California.
Chester was dedicated to his Christian faith and was often seen at the doors of his church, as he welcomed the many visitors and members.  You could count on him for warm greetings, that included a great big smile, firm handshake, or sweet hug.  Everyone that knew Chet remembered him for his kindness and sincerity.  He was committed to sharing the Word of God through the tract ministry, ushering, and other volunteer work.
Chet was employed by the California State National Guard Army, for 36 years and worked as a Canvas and Leather Repairman at the combined support maintenance shop (armory), in Stockton, CA.  During his many years of service, he and his family enjoyed this close-knit community of friends, and he continued these relationships throughout his life.  As a CMA instructor, he gave his students and buddies lots of laughs by clowning around in foxholes as “Charlie Cong, Enemy of the US”.
Chester continued to provide smiles and laughter and was seen walking in parades as “Silly Mr. CJ”.  Chet also enjoyed deep-sea fishing, billiards, Pinochle, and gathering with friends and family.  He was especially proud of son and daughter, and adored his grand-children.  His family and friends meant the world to him, and he will be remembered as a really special man to every one that knew him.
