FORMER MODESTO TEACHER ENTERS PLEA FOR ALLEGED SEX: MODESTO (AP) — A former Modesto high school teacher who left his wife for a former student has pleaded no contest in a criminal case stemming from a previous encounter with another student.

James Hooker's plea agreement was announced as jury selection was set to get under way Monday.

Hooker had been charged with one count of committing oral copulation with a person younger than 18 for an incident in 1998, when he taught at Modesto's Davis High School.

KCRA-TV says Hooker is expected to receive 180 days of a suspended jail sentence and three years of probation when he's sentenced Wednesday.

Hooker attracted national attention when he left his family and quit his teaching job at Enochs High School last year to move in with an 18-year-old former student.
