Everett Clair Wentworth, 93, beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather passed away at his home on September 30, 2009. He was born in Cresco, Iowa on June 26, 1916 and traveled to Gilroy, California with his parents and three brothers in 1924. He attended local schools in Gilroy and graduated from Gilroy High School in 1934 where he lived for 84 years. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Wentworth for 69 years. He and Margaret had moved  to Manteca two years ago to be closer to their family.

He is survived by his children Fredrick Wentworth (Judy) of Manteca, and Pamela Manikowski (Ambrose) of Italy; grandchildren Kevin Wentworth  (Diane), Kristen Condit (Mark) all of Manteca, Mia Costa of Tracy, and  August Costa (Melanie) of Houston, TX, and 5 great-grandchildren.

He owned and operated a heavy equipment company for many years. He was an avid golfer and held many Gilroy Golf Club championships. His grandson Kevin went on to take up the golfing mantel and Margaret and Everett enjoyed traveling around the country watching him play golf. He was a member of the Gilroy United Methodist Church, the Masonic Lodge, and the Shriners.

He followed in his father’s footsteps and became active in Gilroy city politics and served on the Gilroy City Council from 1956 to 1977. His father John served in Gilroy from 1940-1952. His son Rick also served on the Manteca City Council.

He was the son of the late John and Louise Wentworth. In addition to his parents, his son John in Vietnam and 3 brothers, Donald, Roger and  Eugene Wentworth, preceded Everett in death.

He loved to play Gin Rummy and all of his great-grandchildren will remember the many hours spent playing some kind of card game with GGPa.

He will be greatly missed but never forgotten.

A memorial celebration of life service will be held at the Gilroy United  Methodist Church in early November. Donations may be made to the San Joaquin County Office of Education Foundation, P.O. Box 213030, Stockton, CA 95213.
