POSTED July 28, 2013 8:20 p.m.

Gil Fagundes, 84, entered into rest on July 24, 2013 in Manteca, Ca. He was born on September 8, 1928 in the Azores. He joins his family in heaven; parents Candido and Genaveva Fagundes, brothers Valdemiro and Americo Fagundes and sister Zilda Fagundes.

Mr. Fagundes is survived by his beloved wife of 45 years Regina. He has one surviving sister Fatima Maduro and husband Tony. Although Gil and Regina never had any children, they both loved their nieces and nephew as if they were their own.

Gil was a resident of Manteca for over 36 years. Before retirement he was the owner and operator of Fagundes Meats for over 14 years in Manteca. He was a devout Catholic and a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church, YMI, Our Lady of Fatima of Thornton and Our Lady of Miracle of Gustine. He enjoyed socializing and loved being involved with all of the Portuguese Festa’s around the area. He was a member of the M.R.P.S., F.E.S.M. and P.F.S.A. Gil had an unconditional love for children as the feeling was always mutual. The children of the Portuguese organizations always gravitated towards him to see who would get their first hug from “Papa Gil.” His heart was always full when he would see their smiles light up the room.  Gil’s true love was his best friend and wife Regina; they traveled all over the world together enjoying many adventures. He enjoyed bowling and visiting the Sr. Center in Manteca where he would commonly challenge anyone who was up to a game of cards. To remember Gil is to remember him as a sweet man who was hardworking and always dedicated to his family. He will be missed.

P.L. Fry & Son is honored to be serving the Fagundes family. A visitation will be held on Wednesday, July 31, 2013 from 1 to 7 p.m. followed by a rosary at 7 p.m. held at P.L. Fry & Son 290 N.
