The usual quiet around Doctors Hospital was shattered shortly before 10 a.m. Monday when Manteca Police officers chased down a fleeing fugitive they were attempting to serve a “no bail” arrest warrant on a carjacking charge at his McNary Circle home.

Officers gave chase on foot after the suspect led them from his home, through back yards and into occupied apartment units on East North Street where he had kicked in front doors in an effort to keep from going to jail in the more than 30 minute scenario.

Jasiel Salmeron, 26, of Manteca was taken into custody after being sniffed out by police canine “Max” with his handler Officer Jason Massey.  Officers had reportedly had the suspect’s  front door slammed in their face while attempting to serve the warrant with the suspect escaping out the back door, jumping fences from back yard to back yard, going through the apartments and ultimately onto a roof of the apartment complex.

Canine officers had been in training at the former Qualex (Kodak) building on Industrial Park Drive at the same time. Four responded to the search with their dogs including Massey’s.

The suspect was finally taken into custody without resistance around the corner from his home, police said. Residents in the neighborhood were told to stay inside their homes during the search for the suspect.

Salmeron was transported to the San Joaquin County Jail in French Camp and charged with fresh domestic violence with injury charges as well as battery, and resisting arrest in addition to the carjacking warrant.
