Ethel Irene Smith, 78, entered into rest on October 14, 2009 in Stockton, California. A Manteca resident for the past 48 years, she was born on October 24, 1930 in Delano, California to the late Leonard & Irene Beal. She is preceded in death by her loving husband of nearly 41 years, Vaughnon Edgar Smith and one brother Frank Beal.

Mrs. Smith is survived by her children; Renee and her husband John V. Machado of Manteca, Duane and his wife Cathy Smith of Stockton, Debra and her husband Dale Underwood of Stockton and Denice Staubus and her husband Paul of Richmond. She was blessed by 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. In addition Ethel has one surviving sister Ginger Palmer and her husband Jay of Shandon, CA.

Ethel cherished her family beyond words, she devoted her life to her husband and child. She never retired as the “greatest wife” and the “most amazing fulltime Mom and Grandma” that anyone could ask for. She was the youngest old lady you’d ever meet. She enjoyed traveling and following her children and grandchildren to all of their activities, supporting them in all that they did. She was an remarkable house keeper and was always “hands on” as a mother and grandma. She loved to socialize and enjoyed a great party with lots of dancing. Yard work for Ethel was a way to relax and unwind. She loved to stay busy involving herself with the Woman of the Moose, St Paul’s Methodist Church, V.F.W. (Manteca), Eastern Star and volunteering as a Pink Lady at Dr’s Hospital of Manteca. She was an avid sports car fan loving her Corvette and Mercedes Benz. Ethel would commonly travel to many different types of car shows with family and friends. She was an elegant classily lady who had a loving spirit with the perfect balance of strong-willed determination. Above all Ethel devoted all that she had to her children and grandchildren whom she cherished with all of her heart.
