Louise Johnson will try her best to make it to Tuesday’s Ripon Unified picnic that’s open to all staff members.

So says Trustee Kit Oase at the recent special school board meeting at Weston School.

His colleague Ernie Tyhurst will provide the hamburger and hot dog meats for the barbecue dinner scheduled for 6 p.m. at the Mavis Stouffer Park Lower Gazebo.

Prior to that is the social hour beginning at 5 o’clock.

Johnson spent the five years at the RUSD superintendent. She left last month to become superintendent of schools for the Nevada Union High School District.

For now, Bill Draa will fill in as the interim superintendent until a permanent person is appointed to the post.

Draa will also be among the district newcomers at the picnic. The Manteca resident retired last year as Banta School District’s head honcho. He was superintendent there for 15 years and was responsible for the two new campuses including the River Islands charter school and technology academy scheduled to open this fall.

In addition, Draa sits on several prestigious boards and committees, including the California Affordable State Housing, Association of California School Administrator, and the Fiscal Crisis & Management Assistance Team.

Among the other newcomers are the Ripon Continuation High principal / teacher Sergie Samborski, Colony Oak Principal Marlon Gayle, and Ripona Principal Dante Alvarez.
