Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

In regards to the recent letter on handicap parking abuse, I agree totally. Unfortunately that is only part of the problem.

Handicap permits are being issued too freely. The laws need to be rewritten and all current permits reviewed. Many people will talk about “invisible disabilities.” Guidelines for those disabilities are already included in the current laws but are not being followed. There should be a very large fine to the doctor or chiropractor that issues a permit without just cause. A 3 or 5 year review should be required for all permits. The majority of permits are permanent (as opposed to the red temporary permits) and in many cases the person is deceased or their status has changed but the permit continues to be mailed out.

Please contact your state assembly person and state senator and ask for new updated laws. Also the next time you are at your doctor or chiropractor’s office, ask them to be very judicious in issuing the permits.
