ATWATER — Sharon Washington hit six straight free throws during a pivotal stretch of the fourth quarter Tuesday night at Buhach Colony and Buffs went on to claim victory, 52-42.
“Sharon wanted the ball in her hands,” Manteca head coach Andrea Hiatt said. “Both Cynthia (Perez) and Kristi (Llamas) fouled out early in the fourth, which allowed (BC) back into it.
“We had blown it open early.”
Manteca led 17-6 after one, and 25-15 at the break.
Washington finished with 19 points, 11 rebounds, three assists and three steals, while Davina Bennett put up 13 points and 11 boards.
Perez finished with 11, five rebounds and three steals.
Manteca (5-3) begins the Tracy tournament Dec. 26.
The usual suspects were back at it Tuesday for the Lancers as Ashley Rose (18 points, 5 rebounds) drained three more triples, and Rachel O’Neal came up huge on the glass (15 rebounds, 5 offensive).
Rachel McDaniel had a rare goose egg in the scoring column, but it didn’t matter as McDaniel handled the rock with ease, racking up seven assists and snagging three steals.
Shalane Jackson was once again in top form, scoring 10 and grabbing 10 rebounds for her third double-double of the young season.
“O’Neal’s rebounding was really good,” EU head coach Jim Agostini said. “We moved Shalane around a bit and that loosened some things up for us. Ashley hit three more three’s, just another night of senior leadership from her and from Rachel (McDaniel).”
Lexy Posz was once again all over the court, grabbing four rebounds, four steals and four assists.
Genia Alston also had a nice night, collecting five rebounds.
The Lancers (6-0) travel to Ripon Friday.
Jessica Blythe and Paulina Ceja both went for 10, and Kendra Contente had seven.
Skye Dominguez and Lauren Feddersen both chipped in six.
“It wasn’t the prettiest win, but we’ll take it,” Ripon head coach George Contente said. “It was just one of those games. We didn’t start well, even though we had the lead.”
Rachel Rodriguez finished with four and Adrianna Mayberry had three.
Ripon hosts East Union Friday night.
