Paul was born December 26, 1912 north of Sacramento, near Dry Creek Station on the 44,000 acre Rancho Del Paso Mexican Land Grant. His father was a farmer and minister; his mother a homemaker. He was raised in Rio Linda, CA and graduated from Sacramento High School. He studied engineering at Sacramento City College and graduated with an Associate of Arts degree. As a young man he worked odd jobs to support himself and his family throughout college and the Great Depression.
He did many things in his life. In the 1930s he was a produce broker and trucker. He was employed by Greyhound Bus Lines in the 1940s, and was a pilot. He was a sportsman who liked to hunt and fish. He was a horseman, a farmer and a dairyman. In the 1950s Paul started a commercial Dry Bean Harvesting business in the Tracy area that his sons still operate today. He was a member of what has been called “The Greatest Generation.”  He was an Entrepreneur, a Jack-of-all-trades and a master of none. He could be abrasive or charming if he wanted to be! He was a one-of-a-kind personality and we’re going to miss him dearly! We love you dad and grandpa… thank you for everything!!               Paul leaves behind a loving and devoted family; sons, Ron Hoffman and wife Nancy of Tracy, CA; Buzz Hoffman and wife Carla of Manteca, CA; Marvin Hoffman and wife Janice of Casa Grande, AZ; and Joe Sporcic of Seattle, WA; 10 grandchildren, Dr. Paul J. Hoffman and wife, Dr. Kristin Hoffman of Sacramento, CA; Melissa Kalis and husband Phil of Tracy, CA; Stacey Weatherell and husband Jeff of Eugene, OR; Erik Hoffman of Kaysville, UT; Lorie Garnett and husband Brynr of Provo, UT; Marcus Hoffman and wife Jade of Phoenix, AZ; Stephanie Lawler and husband Jeremy of Casa Grande, AZ; Craig Henderson and wife Julie of Kaysville, UT; Major Brad Henderson and wife Janae of Shreveport, LA; and Todd Henderson and wife Lisa of Kaysville, UT, and two nieces Marilla Nagle and Marilyn Humphrey both of Sacramento, CA and dear friend and caregiver Rene Mann of Yuma, AZ. He was also blessed with 20 great grandchildren and numerous extended family members.
Paul was preceded in death by his parents, Mary E. and Matthew J. Hoffman; 1st wife Ila Hoffman, 2nd wife Helen Hoffman and 3rd wife Ruth Hoffman, sister Vernice Robertson and husband Lew, and granddaughter Christina Hoffman.
