9 seek spots on Manteca Youth Advisory board

Nine new members could be appointed to the Manteca Youth Advisory Commission.
The City Council on Tuesday is expected to appoint all nine applicants since there are nine vaccines.
The youth group coordinates a number of events including the junior high dances at the Golden West Community Gym School and assists with various community projects. They also are called on occasionally to advise the council on youth issues.
The nine applicants are:
• Andru Clayton. The Manteca High freshman has tutored children at Give Every Child a Chance for the past two years in addition to volunteering at various events around Manteca.
• Ryan Ender is a Manteca High junior who also works with kids in the GECAC tutoring program. As a sophomore he was part of Manteca’s High’s second place academic decathlon team and was a member of Friday Night Live, California Scholarship Federation, and Health Occupational Students of America. He is currently a part of Link Crew and Peer Counseling.
• Maria Herrera has served on the Manteca Youth Advisory Council for the past two years. She is a junior at Durham Ferry School and has volunteered to help with teen dances, the fishing derby, and Halloween carnival.
• Ricky Herrera is a freshman at Durham Ferry School. He has volunteered at the Halloween carnival at the Boys & Girls Club, teen dances and other events.
• Noah Ledesma is a junior at East Union High who has served as a YAC member since August 2011. As a Scout he has helped with canned food drives and participates in placing 2,400 flags along Manteca streets during the year. He is involved in the Kiwins youth service club and served as a student tutor and anthology editor for the Great Valley Writing Project.
• Erza Lenhardt is an East Union High student where she was elected treasurer of the freshman class. Lenhardt was in student leadership at Golden West School and serves as a GECAC tutor.
• Nathaniel Padilla is a Manteca High student who is a member of the Manteca Youth Focus group. He is also treasurer of the organization.
• Angel Pulido is a freshman at Manteca High and is a member of the Buffalo freshman football team. He was the eighth grade president at Sequoia School.
• Maliah Watson is a junior at East Union High. She volunteers every summer at the Boys & Girls Club and serves as a tutor for GECAC. She is the current Boys & Girls Club Youth of the Year and is involved in the club’s Keystone youth service group.
The City Council meets at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Civic Center, 1001 W. Center St.
