Parents beware: Sexual predators are approaching children as they walk to and from school.

Last week at least three different people in three different parts of Manteca approached juveniles en route to or from school either exposing themselves or making inappropriate comments.

Manteca Police are asking for the public’s help in finding the men before they’re able to repeat the behavior.

Police said there were four incidents over the course of the last five days. The first happened near Sierra High School last Friday and the second pair took place over the last two days.

What’s unique about the rash of crimes is that the descriptions given by witnesses and those that were approached were all starkly different. One was described as a black male of unknown age, another as a Hispanic or Filipino male and one as a white male in his late 30’s with a scruffy beard.

The most recent came on Tuesday when a suspect described as a white male in his late 30s or early 40s with a red scruffy beard drove up alongside a juvenile on the 500 block of Moffat Boulevard and started making inappropriate comments. He had a pit bull with him in an older black vehicle with rust on the hood.

Other situations police are investigating include:

• An unknown black male that exposed himself to a minor walking along the 1900 block of Wawona Street at roughly 3 p.m. on Aug. 16. He was said to have been driving a turquoise Ford Excursion in poor condition.

• A middle-aged white male that allegedly exposed himself to a group of Sierra High students at the corner of Wawona Avenue and Winters Drive at 3:30 p.m. on Aug. 16. He was described as clean-shaven, balding and slightly chubby and was reportedly driving a tan-colored extended cab pickup truck with a matching camper shell.

• On Monday, Aug. 19 at approximately 4 p.m., a man described as either Hispanic or Filipino – supposedly in his 30’s with a medium build, short black hair, a small patch of facial hair just below his lip and a mole on his cheek – exposed himself on the 1600 block of Northgate Drive. Witnesses say he was behind the wheel of a smaller, newer black passenger vehicle.

Manteca Police are stepping up patrols in school areas when children are present. They are asking parents and anybody that might be around to keep an eye out not only for the alleged perpetrators, but anything that may be out of place or suspicious.

Any information can be passed on to the Manteca Police Department at (209) 456-8100 or the South County Crime Stoppers at (209) 823-4636.
