AMMONIA SMELLING BAG DRAWS BOMB SQUAD TO BANK

/

POSTED August 21, 2013 4:06 p.m.

Manteca Police bomb squad officer Mike Keener checks a suspicious red bag at the front door at the Bank of the West on East Yosemite Avenue near Highway 99.  The bank was cleared of customers and employees, police said for about 45 minutes after the 1:30 p.m. incident.  The smell of ammonia from toxic food remnants drew the concern of the bank management.  A witness reported seeing a man walk by the bank’s door and drop the red bag, continuing to walk south through the parking lot.  Officers asked the bank customers attempting to use the ATM outside the facility to leave for their own safety.
