Each year, Manteca Unified receives a generous donation from Soroptimist International of Manteca.

At Tuesday’s school board meeting, Betty Ingell, who is the president of the local chapter, had the honor of presenting the $9,000 check to Trustee Mike Seelye. The money will go to the district’s Health Services Department to support the Teen Crisis Counseling program.

“This donation was made possible by our fundraisers and memorial project,” said Ingell, who was accompanied at the meeting by fellow Soroptimist members Dorothy Indelicato and Karen Grissom.

Soroptimist has donated $302,500 to the program over the past 24 years.

The Teen Crisis Counseling program falls in line with the organization’s mission statement of “(improving) the lives of women and girls.”

Soroptimist also awards scholarships to deserving high school students each year, Ingell said.

Caroline Thibodeau, as always, appreciated the donation. She’s the director of Health Services at MUSD.

“We’re thankful for the many years of donation from Soroptimists,” Thibodeau said.

She handles the counselors of the Teen Crisis program. They’ve been credited for substantially reducing the potential for at-risk teens to make decisions that could result in negative consequences to their future.

The check presentation took place during Superintendent Jason Messer’s reports to the board.
