It’s going to be a celebration of life – a better life – for the countless patients who have been served by Ripon’s Bethany Home over the last 50 years.

Friday, Sept. 13, in 1963 is when the nursing home admitted Ida Schepel as its first patient.

“This is such an important time in Bethany Home’s history,” remarked executive director Andrew Lee.  “Although Bethany was formed in 1958, it is actually the date that the convalescent hospital took in its first resident that is being celebrated.”

The much respected former administrators Ken Hekman and Bruce Nikkel, along with Gertrude Hekman – wife of longtime administrator Martin Hekman – will be present to commemorate the special occasion.

The University of the Pacific’s Brubeck Institute Jazz Quintet will perform for the event.

Tickets are on sale for the Sept, 13 event at $35. It will be held at the Ripon Community Center on Fourth Street. It will begin with light appetizers beginning at 6:30 with dinner following at 7.  For more information or to purchase tickets go to Bethany’s corporate office at 999 W. Second St. or call (209) 599-4221, ext. 121.
