Benefit Nov. 6 for Sequoia School teacher

A benefit for Connie McCormick is planned for Friday, Nov. 6, from 5 to 9 p.m. at Chez Shari.

A third-grade teacher at Sequoia School, she was diagnosed last year with cancer and, during the summer, was given a prognosis of one year.

McCormick, who has been receiving chemotherapy treatments on a weekly basis, will see her job officially come to an end in January.

Parent Teacher Partnership at Sequoia School along with Prescott Church have stepped up to sponsor the fundraiser consisting of a half rosemary chicken served with rigatoni, salad, dinner roll, fountain drink, and dessert from Burgess Bakery.

Cost is $25 per person.

The event will kick off with a no-host bar at 5 with dinner served at 6 o’clock. Included will be door prizes along with a drawing and silent auction.

A money tree will also be available.

All proceeds will be applied towards McCormick’s health benefits.

In addition, takeout meals will be available for $18.

Donations may be made to “Connie McCormick” and delivered to Sequoia School.

Chez Shari is located in the Manteca Park Golf Course, 305 N. Union Road.

for Almond
Blossom queen

RIPON - The Ripon Chamber of Commerce and Ripon Soroptimist International are presenting the 48th Annual Almond Blossom Festival Queen Contest.

The applications will be available on Monday, Nov. 16, at 9 a.m. at the following locations:
•Ripon Chamber Office, 929 West Main Street.  
•Ripon High School Office, 304 N. Acacia Ave.
•Ripon Christian High School Office, 435 N. Maple Ave.

They are accepting all applications. The applications must be turned into the Ripon Chamber office by Thursday, Dec. 3, 2009 before 4 p.m. You must be at least a junior and 16 years of age by Dec. 3, 2009 and not over the age of 19.

Sierra High Band
Italian dinner

The Sierra High Band Boosters’ Italian dinner is Tuesday, Nov. 3, from 5:30 to 6:45 p.m. in the school cafeteria.

Dinner ticket includes admission to “Sierra Idol” finals that begin at 7 p.m.

The menu consist of raviolis or spaghetti, dinner roll, house or Caesar salad, lemonade, water, and dessert.

Dinner music will be provided by Sierra band students.

Tickets are $10 general and 5 for children 5 years and younger. Dinner is available by pre-sale only.

Dinners can be taken “to go” as well.

Bunco party
this Friday

A night of family fun, food, Bunco games, and prizes will take place Friday, Oct. 30, from 6:30 to 10 p.m. at the Manteca Masonic Hall, 212 N.

Powers Ave.

The cost is $10 per person.
