The license plate left at the scene of a hit-and-run crash Tuesday morning led police to the home of the driver on East Edison Street.

The accident occurred at 6:40 a.m. in the 500 block of North Main Street when a maroon Chrysler van reportedly collided with a sedan flipping it over and injuring the driver, a 49-year-old Manteca resident.

Manteca Police motorcycle officer Patrick Danipour located the license plate as he began his investigation of the crash.  Police spokesman Rex Osborn said the DMV computers were off line.   Communications officers Rudy Fowler and David Jones  took over a search from the police station going through paper records of past offenses involving the vehicle.

Finding the information on the car they sent officers Randy Chiek and Elliot Eichel to the registered location of the vehicle in the 500 block of East Edison Street.

The officers located the van at the residence. Tiffany James, 32, and David Pruneda, 33, were arrested for leaving the scene of the accident.  James was charged with “duty to stop at the scene of an injury accident” and Prudneda as being an accessory after the fact.  Both were cited and released from Manteca city jail.
