Peter T. Meredith of Manteca, California passed away August 23, 2013 at the age of 80.  Pete enjoyed a long and happy life with the love of his life, Pearl.
Pete is preceded in death by his parents Harry and Lucile Meredith.  He is survived by his wife Pearl, his sister Margaret Meredith, his children Teri Hardin (Don), Tom Meredith (Becky), Mary Meredith and Dustan Meredith (Jamie) and his seven grandchildren Corbett, Danielle, David, Madison, Brooke, Justan and Sam.
Pete was born in Galveston, Texas in 1932 and moved to Stockton in 1934 where he attended Elk Horn Grammar School.  He moved to Manteca in 1944 and graduated from Manteca High School in 1950.  After high school he spent two years in the Navy as a Seabee during the Korean War, while being stationed in San Diego.
In 1957 he married Pearl and they started their life together in Manteca.  Pete was involved in agriculture all of his life.  He farmed sweet potatoes and started a custom hay business in 1961. In 1984 they purchased Valley Landscape Supply, which later was converted to farm equipment sales. Pete still continued to go to auctions and sell farm equipment.  He was passionate about the work he did. There was never any doubt in his mind that farming would be his career.
Pete loved his country and was very patriotic.  He loved camping in his RV and going fishing with his wife. In later years the coffee shop was one of his favorite places to  go and spend time with his buddies.  He loved spending time with his family.  His grandchildren brought him great joy and he cherished his time spent with them.  Nothing made him happier than a surprise visit from one of the grandkids, other than food cooked by his wife, Pearl.  Pete enjoyed good food and Pearl provided wonderful meals for him.  Pete and Pearl would have celebrated their 56th wedding anniversary on August 24th.  They both felt very blessed to have had 56 years together.
Pete’s heart gave out on August 23rd but only after he was able to share some very precious time with his family and he was surrounded by his wife and children.  Pete will always be remembered by his friends and family as a loving husband, father, grandfather and friend.  Peter was a gentleman.
A celebration of Pete’s life will be held on Saturday, September 7th, at St. Paul’s Methodist Church in Manteca at 11:00, lunch will follow in the fellowship hall.  Pete always loved bright colors so everyone attending the service is invited to wear something bright.  In lieu of flowers, donations can be sent to Disabled American Veterans, P.O. Box 14301, Cincinnati, OH 45250-0301.
