POSTED August 30, 2013 5:30 p.m.

Joe S. DaRosa, 79, passed away on August 26, 2013. He was born on August 14, 1934 in Faial, Azores, and was preceded in death by his dear wife Mary, and their grandson Emerson Avila-DaRosa.
Among those left to mourn Joe’s passing are his son Ken DaRosa and Ken’s wife Mary Avila-DaRosa, and their children Camille and Jamieson Avila-DaRosa of Sacramento. Joe’s grieving family also includes his son Chris DaRosa, Chris’ wife Bryana DaRosa and their son Theodore Gabriel DaRosa of San Francisco. Mourning as well are a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and a wide circle of friends.
Joe held a number of jobs throughout his life to support his family, and while Joe never may have known great material wealth he provided stability, a home, and a nurturing environment for his children. Joe drove trucks, worked vineyards, manufactured automobile glass, and concluded his working years as a maintenance and grounds keeper serving the Manteca Unified School District. He was a member of St. Anthony’s Catholic Church where he expressed his faith to others through the ministry of prayer and music, particularly while singing with the St. Anthony’s Portuguese Choir. The Monterey Coast was a favorite destination throughout his life and we fondly remember the many trips we took there as a family. Joe, together with his wife Mary, was an avid gardener, taking satisfaction in the flowers, pond, and landscaping around their home. It was here they would entertain friends and family, serving good food, wine, and generous hospitality. This generosity was a hallmark of Joe’s life, his friends were  loyal because Joe was loyal. He was a trusted confidant and friend, always willing to help with a neighbor’s home project or answer the call in a time of need. Joe truly found and lived the American dream, an immigrant who arrived on these shores with little English and little money but built a home and a family upon which he looked with great pride.
Joe’s life was remarkable for another reason,  the deep love and affection he held for his most beloved wife, Mary.  She was the spark igniting his soul, the warmth that filled his heart. He survived the grief upon her passing by embracing the fondest memories of the life he shared with her. We now quiet our own grief and sadness at Joe’s passing in the comfort that he is reunited with her.
Joe enriched our lives and our memories, and we celebrate his peace and eternal rest.
