Sometimes it pays to give the other team the ball back.

With the Sierra sophomores clinging to a two-point lead Friday against host Tracy early in the third quarter, the Bulldogs booted a punt that came to rest near midfield. Tracy was called for a penalty and rather than take the ball at midfield, the Timberwolves backed the Bulldogs up 5 yards and following another 5-yard penalty Tracy found itself punting from near its own goal line.

The left side of the Sierra line broke through and Luki Tuitasi blocked the punt, allowing Mark Paule to pick it up and walk 3 yards into the end zone on the way to a 26-12 non-league win at Wayne Schneider Stadium.

On the drive following the blocked punt the Bulldogs snapped the ball out of the end zone to make the score 23-12. Enrique Jasso added a late 27-yard field goal for the final score of 26-12.

Daniel Wyatt (6 for 11 passing, 68 yards; seven carries, 78 yards) had a hand in the other two Timberwolves scores with a  59-yard yard touchdown run and a 16-yard touchdown pass to Brian Terrell (two receptions, 51 yards).

Scott Teicheira led Sierra with nine tackles followed by Paule with seven and Andrew Guevara and Geo Juarez with five apiece. Wyatt had an interception to start the second half and Tim Brown added one late in the game.

Alex Martel scored four touchdowns Friday to lead the Lancers to a non-league victory over the visiting Spartans at Dino Cunial Field.

East Union coach Daniel Herrera credited the offensive line of Tyler Reese, Luis DaSilva, Nick Wade, Xavior Jimenez and Joel Melena for paving the way Martel’s rushing success.

Marcos Panelo made two interceptions and Austin Miller and Jack Weaver had one apiece for East Union. Daniel Ramos and Baily Simons were defensive standouts for the Lancers.
