The Sierra soccer team improved to 3-2-1 following a 5-3 non-league victory over visiting Downey at Daniel Teicheira Stadium Thursday.

Sierra’s Jesus Coronado put the Timberwolves up 1-0 on an assist via Juan Acosta, who then put his squad up 2-0 after converting a penalty kick. Caleb Ngui scored Sierra’s third goal of the first half.

In the second half, Downey made it a 3-2 contest off of a penalty kick.

Bryan Ramos tacked on Sierra’s last two goals to make up the final.

Alejandro Ramos finished with two assists and Julian Semenza had a clutch save on a free kick during his time in the net in the second half.

Sierra will visit Enochs in Modesto on Monday at 3:30 p.m.

Manny Sanchez scored Ripon’s lone goal in the 65th minute, which closed the Indians (3-4) in 2-1 at that point.

Linden, which improved to 3-2-1, almost immediately stretched its lead back out to two about a minute after Sanchez’s goal.

“That was a momentum killer,” Ripon head coach Jamie DeBruyn said.

Ripon will compete at Ripon Christian’s Jerry Terpsma Classic on Saturday at 10 a.m. against Forest Lake Christian.
