Manteca opens season with sweep over Stagg

Beth Aschenbrenner shined for Manteca during Thursday’s 3-0 preseason victory over Stagg in Stockton (25-15, 25-13, 25-17).

Aschenbrenner helped Manteca tallied 20 assists and four aces. Alyssa Burch played solid up front, finishing with nine kills and six blocks.

Arianna Martinez had six kills and Jasmine Basuil had a team-high 15 digs.

“It’s always good to start that way,” Manteca coach Kevin Bolding said. “It’s something to build off and find out where we’re at.”

Manteca will be at Patterson on Tuesday at 6 p.m.

Weston Ranch 3, Franklin 1

Weston Ranch improved to 1-1 after knocking off Franklin Stockton in four games (25-18, 25-19, 22-25, 25-17).

Alex Marapo led the Cougars with 30 assists. Victoria Gulley had 10 kills and Elisabeth Alexander finished with a team-high 13 kills.

Weston Ranch will be at Stagg at 6 p.m. on Tuesday.

“It’s nice to get a win early in the season,” Weston Ranch head coach Chris Bauer said. “We played better and we’re improving.”

East Union 3, Downey 1

East Union bounced back from its loss against Galt with a four-set victory against Downey on the road (25-20, 25-27, 25-15, 25-19).

The Lancers are now 1-1, not including their tournament victories. Monica King finished with 10 kills and Courtney Posz tallied 13 assists.

Jami Arceo had 16 digs, while Regina Dias had 15 service points which included five aces.

“They were a little fatigued, but the third and fourth set they picked it up,” EU head coach Rich Posz said.

EU will head to Modesto on Monday to face Modesto High at 6 p.m.

RC 3, Modesto Chr. 0

Ripon Christian’s Teagan Manus led the Knights with nine kills and 16 digs during sweep of Modesto Christian (25-19, 25-17, 25-23).

The Knights are now 1-2. Dani Erdalatz had seven kills and setter Andie Shelton dished out 16 assists. Amber Hilvers finished with two blocks.

RC’s next game is scheduled for Monday at 6 p.m. at Tokay High.


East Union 2, Downey 0

Melissa King and Deja Guzman combined for 11 aces during a two-game sweep over host Downey, 25-14, 25-8.

Mariah Jeffery had four kills for the Lancers, who improved to 6-0 in the preseason. Taylor Ward led the defense with five digs.

W. Ranch 2, Franklin 0

Weston Ranch improved to 2-0 preseason following a 25-14, 25-7 victory over host Franklin Thursday.

Traylnn Simerly had three kills, one block and 10 aces. Sabrina Rangel finished with three assists and Elysia Hernandez seven digs.

At the freshmen level, the Cougars also swept Franklin, 2-0.
