Lancers struggle but good enough to beat Sierra

East Union’s girls golf team wasn’t particularly sharp in its third Valley Oak League match in three days Thursday at Manteca Park Golf Course, but it didn’t need to be to stay undefeated.

Led by low medalist Brooke Riley’s 4-over-par 41, the Lancers outshot Sierra 240-266. Teammate Jordan Vinson was second with a 43. Lexus Barnes turned in a third-place 47 for Sierra.

Scoring contributors for East Union included Brittany Ugalino (50), Brittany Conijn (53) and Breanna Perkins (53). For Sierra (0-2), McKenna Doyle carded a 49 and was followed by Kayla Wilson (54), Vanessa Rodriguez (57) and Krystal Rayevich (59).



Oakdale 338, Weston Ranch 355

Weston Ranch came up short at the Oakdale Golf & Country Club Thursday.

Jessica Fogheringham and Sierra Strangler each shot 67s for the Cougars, who fell to 0-2 in league. Tayler Mar and Rochelle Macatangay each carded a 72. Jennifer Carmona rounded out the total with a 77 for the Cougars, who will have their next match Tuesday at 3 p.m. at Lathrop High.



Sonora 260, Sierra 283


Sierra opened its season at Mountain Springs Golf Club on Tuesday. Tallon Popovich led all players with a 46, as host Sonora recorded the top three scores of the round.

Barnes paced Sierra with a 51 and Doyle added a 54. Kaitlea Maestas finished with a 57 while Vanessa Rodriguez had a 58. Rayevich and Wilson each posted a 63.



Sonora 242, Lathrop DQ


Sonora teammates Emma Holloway and Polovich duked it out for low-medalist honors at French Camp Golf Course. Holloway prevailed with an 11-over 43 and a one-stroke victory.

Lathrop’s Kristina Garcia posted the sixth best score of 59. Vanessa Vega (65) and Kaitlyn Davis (71) also participated for the Spartans.
