Next week, an estimated 4,000 area students will visit the Manteca Unified school farm for Ag Venture.

That’s the free San Joaquin County-sponsored field trip educating third-grade students.

The annual event will take place on Wednesday, Nov. 4.

According to coordinator Janet Dyk, students from Banta, Escalon, Tracy, Jefferson, New Jerusalem, Ripon and Manteca school districts coupled with several private schools – Ripon Christian, St. Anthony’s, and St. Bernard’s – are expected to attend this year’s AgVenture.

Two other such events are planned at the San Joaquin Fair (Jan. 20) and Lodi Grape Festival (March 10).

The three events are expected to bring in an estimated 11,000 youngsters, who will have a chance to learn about locally grown crops, machinery, farm animals, and water and soil, to name a few.

San Joaquin County is the seventh most productive county in the state and eighth nationwide while generating $2 billion in sales annually.

In addition, volunteer guides will be on hand to share information on agriculture and its effects on the local and state economy.
