Ripon girls  second, boys third at meet

Jose Munoz and the Ripon boys cross country team finished third at the season’s first Trans-Valley League meet on Wednesday, trailing winner Riverbank and Hughson.

Riverbank’s girls cross country team ran a solid race during Wednesday’s opening Trans Valley League meet at Modesto’s Tuolumne Regional Park.

The Riverbank girls took first place with 28 points, while Ripon came in second with 44.

Riverbank’s Mikayla Florez took first with a 19-minute, 58-second finish in the girls 5K. Ripon’s Ellie Waters came in second with a 20:42.

“Riverbank girls were dominant, taking three out of the top five spots,” Ripon head cross country coach Paul Calkins said.

Jessica Carmona (23:12), Ana Hermosillo (23:23), Analisa Rangel (24:28) and Harmony Sedillo (26:28) were Ripon’s other runners for the girls side.

Riverbank also won the boys 5K race as well with 28 points. Hughson (44) was second and Ripon (58) rounded out the top three.

Hughson’s Zach Morrett took home the individual gold for boys with a 17:08, respectively. Riverbank’s runners Luis Figueroa and Adrian Salazar took third and fourth place, while Ripon’s Alex Norling rounded out the top five with a 17:49.

Antonio Pelaez (18:17), Jose Munoz (18:46), Kyle Bailey (18:57), Anthony Garcia (19:22) and Brent White (19:24) were Ripon’s other five finishers.

Ripon’s second TVL meet is scheduled for Sept. 26 at 3:30 p.m. at the same location in Modesto. The final TVL meet will be Oct. 30.
