RIPON — Ripon and Ripon Christian will have to wait for Tuesday’s nonleague contest to resume its rivalry.

Orestimba derailed their plans of an earlier showdown Saturday in RC’s Jerry Terpsma Classic. The Warriors edged the host Knights 1-0 in the opening round, but lost to Trans-Valley League foe Ripon by the same score in the championship.

Orestimba faced another TVL member in the semifinals, where it defeated eventual-third-place finisher Escalon. Bradshaw Christian (Sacramento) placed fourth, and Ripon Christian earned the consolation title.

Mauricio Aguirre scored the lone goal in the first half of the title match. Matt Uecker was credited with the assist. Freshman Diego Franco and Johnathan Maragos picked up three saves apiece at goal.

The Indians (6-4) needed to settle their first-round battle with Forest Lake Christian (Auburn) with a penalty-kick shootout, getting the 3-2 edge after a scoreless finish in regulation. Emmanuel Sanchez was part of Ripon’s committee of goalkeepers and had three saves. Maragos turned in four.

Flavio Valadao powered Ripon’s 4-1 win over Bradshaw Christian with a hat trick in the semifinal showdown. Brandon Roma added a goal of his own. Alejandro Aguilar, Nate Machado and Uecker each had an assist. Franco registered four saves.

Ripon Christian (5-3-1) scored only a single goal en route to the consolation title after amassing 17 in two wins earlier in the week.

Goalie Lukas Vermeulen posted seven saves in RC’s tourney-opening loss to Orestimba. Excel Academy of Stockton forfeited to give the Knights a free pass to the fifth-place game.

Andrew Mantes (Kyle Colyn assist) netted their lone goal of the tournament in the consolation match, but it wasn’t enough for them to overcome Forest Lake in regulation. The winner was decided in a shootout with RC prevailing.

Vermuelen ended up with eight saves.

Ripon hosts RC at 5 p.m. Tuesday.

Lathrop falls in PKs

The Spartans (5-3-1) erupted for eight goals in a shutout victory over Central Catholic to advance to a final game at the Gregori Tournament Saturday. Goals were much harder to come by in the title match versus Buhach Colony, which won in a penalty kick shootout. The game was scoreless after 50 minutes of regulation play.

Lathrop completed its sweep in pool play with a resounding 8-0 win over Central Catholic in the morning game. Kevin Alvarez, Sergio Carrillo and Vicente Lopez had two goals apiece, while goalie Erik De Leon had six total saves in the two games.
The Spartans host Beyer Tuesday.
