Editor, Manteca Bulletin;

This is an open letter to the person who vandalized the Manteca Unified School District van:

You severed the gas line of a school van. Maybe part of the “thrill” of committing a criminal act is to imagine and wonder afterward how your actions affected the intended individual(s). Just so you won’t have to wonder, what follows is a brief overview: The van was to have been used Wednesday morning Sept.11, to transport a group of students from the Manteca Adult Transition Program to the grand opening of the new Firehouse No. 4 on Lathrop Road.

Because of your actions here is what they missed:

• They missed the opportunity to be involved in a very special day as part of the community in which they live, work, and love.

• They missed the opportunity to be a blessing to whomever they would have come into contact with.

• They missed the opportunity to see paintings they themselves created and donated, hanging for the first time in public, on the firehouse walls.

• They missed the opportunity to see and hear several of Manteca’s brave firefighters and other community leaders thank the community for their support.

• They missed hearing the stories of the firefighters of New York City who in 2001 ran toward the inferno that was the Twin Towers, many sacrificing their lives.

• Finally, they missed the opportunity of being guided at such an event by the dedicated teachers and staff of the Adult Transition Program, whose joy it is everyday to be their instructors.

Now you don’t have to wonder.
