Weston Ranch is ready for the rigors of the Valley Oak League.

The Cougars capped their most successful nonleague schedule with a 7-0 shellacking of visiting Bear Creek on Thursday. They are 8-1-1 going into their conference opener at Kimball next Tuesday. Their only loss came against defending VOL co-champion Manteca, which edged them out 2-1 in the Buffalo Cup finals last weekend.

William Giron and Joseph Mayorca powered Weston Ranch with two goals each. Mayorca also assisted both of Giron’s scores. Hector Maldonado and Omar Centeno each contributed a goal and an assist. Marco Jaimes scored once, and Kevin Medina assisted one.

Gregori 4, Ripon 1

The Indians (7-5) came up well short of avenging a previous loss to Gregori while having their four-match win streak snapped. They dug themselves into a 3-0 hole by halftime.

“We came out really flat and had a hard time defending in our back line in the first half,” Ripon coach Jamie DeBruyn said.

Brandon Roma accounted for Ripon’s lone goal on an Emmanuel Sanchez assist in the 45th minute, but Gregori answered with its final goal mere moments later.

Ripon kicks off the Trans-Valley League season Wednesday against Escalon.

Ripon Ch. 2, Hughson 2

Kyle Van Vuren and Kyle Colyn each buried a goal, while goalie Lukas Vermuelen recorded five saves for Ripon Christian (5-3-2).

The Knights play host to Waterford in their Southern League opener Monday.

McNair 3, Lathrop 1

Lathrop’s Vicente Lopez converted a penalty kick for the game’s first goal in the 18th minute, but McNair took over from there.  The Eagles (4-0) evened the score in the final minute of the first half and seized control in the second.

“That (first-half goal by McNair) kind of took the momentum away,” Lathrop coach Lenny Lial said. “They were actually outplaying us from the halfway point of the first half. They were just a lot more physical and faster to the ball.”

The Spartans (6-4-1) begin league with Sierra.
