I just had to write and tell you how much I appreciated your column on polio “The global was that doesn’t grab headlines” — Sept. 14 by Dennis Wyatt).

I did not know that it was still an active disease in some parts of the world. One of my beloved uncles, Bruce Dallas, had polio when he was a child. He forever walked with a pronounced limp caused by one leg being much shorter than the other. I don’t know if it was from surgery because of the polio or what, but I know that it was because of his polio. My parents always made sure all of us had the sugar cube vaccine every year it was available. Uncle Bruce was very cheerful and full of fun and never let his handicap mar his great outlook on life. Thanks for reminding me about this deadly disease and about my beloved Uncle Bruce.
