The Manteca High girls tennis team is a win away from repeating as Valley Oak League champion.

The Buffaloes have their eighth overall title in sight after dispatching East Union 8-1 Tuesday on their home courts. They can claim a share of the crown Thursday at Lathrop. Oakdale is still in the mix with just one loss and hosts Manteca on Oct. 17.

The crosstown match was well contested despite the wide margin. Manteca (12-0) had to win five three-set matches and was without No. 1 player Liz Diaz. Sealy McAdams took her spot in the ladder and edged out East Union’s Brooke Niendorf, 7-5, 3-6, 6-4.

Three other singles matches went the distance after East Union players took the lead. Manteca No. 3 player Julia Saling came from behind to knock off Maddie Yslava, 1-6, 6-4, 7-5. Fechi Nkwocha grinded out a 2-6, 6-3, 6-4 victory over Araceli Gonzalez. And Ashlee Miller coasted past Mandi Roberts 3-6, 6-2, 6-1 after an early setback.

Elizabeth Tolbert (6-2, 6-2) and Allison Rachels (6-1, 6-0) won in straight sets for the Buffaloes.

East Union recorded its lone point at No. 1 doubles, as Nayeli Del Real and Marissa Moreno topped Jasmine Ellington and Katie Inderbitzin, 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

Haylee Both and Megan Gonzales squeaked out a 6-1, 3-6, 10-8 victory over EU’s Tabatha Barrington and Astrid Hernandez. Kaitlyn Hoyer and Monique Sandhu decisively took the No. 2 doubles match, 6-1, 6-1.

Sierra 5, Weston Ranch 4

In Stockton, Claire Banks triumphed in the No. 4 singles match and earned the deciding point for Sierra (5-7). She narrowly defeated Weston Ranch’s Preet Kaur, 6-4, 3-6, 10-8.

Megan Carbiener (7-5, 6-4) and No. 3 doubles partners Kelly Bacon and Nour Hamza (7-5, 3-6, 6-4) also picked up big points, avenging losses from their first go-round with the Cougars. Simran Thind beat Kazoua Yang, 6-2, 6-7 (1-6), 6-2 at No. 3 singles. Crystal Hernandez and Maria Vazquez claimed the top doubles match, 6-2, 6-2.

Weston Ranch’s Delarine Barut prevailed against Anna Cardenas 7-5, 6-3 in the battle of No. 1s. Other victorious Cougars were Donica Ramos (6-2, 6-1), Melissa Outman (6-2, 6-2) No. 2 doubles Kim Valladeres and Jasmeen Sembhi (6-2, 6-2).

Lathrop 6, Sonora 3

The host Spartans recorded their second win of the season Tuesday.

Contributing to the victory were: Jayna Palma (7-5, 6-0), Danielle Osoteo (6-2, 6-4), Deja Andrades (6-3, 6-4), Ann Maree Barber (3-6, 6-4, 10-8), Hannah Byrd/Lexis Bonafacio (6-3, 6-3) and Harjit Kaur/Donna Ray Aragon (7-5).
