Rebels rally past rivals

The Delta Rebels traveled across town to Sierra High last Saturday to square off with the Manteca Chargers in their annual intra-city clash.

The Rebels’ won the junior varsity contest 20-15 to improve to 4-1 in the South Conference and 5-1 overall in Delta Youth Football League action. The Chargers fell to 1-3 in conference play, 2-4 overall.

Christopher Contreras racked up 124 all-purpose yards, scored a touchdown and aided the defense with an interception to lead Delta. Michael Balland hooked up with Michael Sucher for a 43-yard pass touchdown pass play.

The defense was paced by Thomas Cann’s five tackles and two sacks. Alex Kukor also recorded a pair of quarterback sacks.

The Chargers forfeited the varsity contest as Delta (5-1) remained undefeated in the South Conference. The novice Rebels (3-1, 4-2) rolled to a 32-6 win, while the junior novice Chargers (2-2, 4-2) won, 34-13. Additional information from the varsity, novice and junior novice games were not submitted as of press time.

Manteca next heads to Hayward High to face the Hayward Monarchs, while the Rebels take on the Tracy Cougars at Kimball High.
