Manteca’s Miss Pumpkin 2012 Jessica Ray has a new role – a zombie volunteer on Discovery Channel’s hit show, Mythbusters.

You may see her scary painted face when the zombie episode, which is part of the popular show’s 10th season, will air Thursday, Oct. 17, at 9 p.m. on Discovery.

The 2013 Sierra High School graduate, who is now attending Delta College, is one of 300 zombie volunteers who signed up, and were accepted, for this episode.

Ray and her boyfriend Ryan saw a posting on Facebook that Mythbusters was looking for extras or volunteer zombies and submitted an online application to the producers.

“And they both got accepted. This was back in March,” said Dale Ray, Miss Pumpkin’s father.

The episode was filmed in the Bay Area. It was a two-day jaunt for Jessica and her boyfriend who did their own make-up and provided all the things needed for their appearance on the TV program.

“They put a lot of thought into their make-up and costume,” said Dale Ray, a manager at Hobby Lobby in Stockton. He and wife Tanya are the parents of three girls, with Jessica their middle child.

The Ray family was going to host a party to view the television show on Thursday. “Unfortunately, the rest of the family will be out of town. We didn’t know (the exact show date); they just announced it last week when it’s going to be on.”

But they plan to tape the show and then have a viewing party at a later date.

This is the first time Mythbusters is trying to dispel some of the myths surrounding the topic of zombies. Reportedly, one of the myths that the show will try to prove, or un-prove, is to see which weapon is most effective in killing a horde of the undead – a crossbow or a machete?
