Jr. Buffs ready for Battle of Beasts

The Manteca Junior Buffaloes varsity team sharpened its teeth for this weekend’s Battle of the Beasts with a 34-7 win over the Merced Bears.

Michael Frisby and Ferrin Manuleleua each scored two touchdowns for the Junior Buffaloes, now 8-1 heading into Saturday’s showdown with the Manteca Jaguars.

The win saved the Junior Buffaloes from a sweep. The Bears won a tight-knit contest at the peewee level, 13-7, and the roared to a 28-0 junior varsity victory.

Frisby highlighted the varsity team’s rout, impacting each phase of the game. He had 11 carries for 118 yards, including a 45-yard touchdown in the first quarter and a 2-yard plunge in the fourth. He also had a 17-yard kickoff return and  four tackles.

Manuleleua scored on runs of 3 and 10 yards. He finished with 65 yards on 12 carries.

Seth Owings tallied Manteca’s other score – a 1-yard charge in the fourth quarter.

Junior Varsity

Jacod DeJesus led the offense with 16 carries for 66 yards and Warren McGovern paced the defense with six tackles for the junior varsity Junior Buffaloes, now 2-7 following Saturday’s shutout loss.


Deshon Thomas accounted for Manteca’s only points, turning a Isaac Searcy pass into a 71-yard touchdown reception. He also converted the point-after touchdown. Jacob Sandoval led the defense with seven tackles, while Calvin Ramsey recovered two fumbles.


Though score isn’t kept at this level, the Junior Buffaloes frequented the end zone. Daniel Rushing scored twice and David Hennemann had a 30-yard touchdown pass. Cole Ramsey and Adam Barrera anchored the defense with four tackles apiece.
