Ripon sophomore Ellie Waters took second overall in the girls varsity 5,000 meter race during Wednesday’s Trans Valley League Championships at Modesto’s Legion Park.

Waters finished in 19 minutes, 50 seconds, while first-place finisher Mikayla Florez of Riverbank took the gold in 18:55. Riverbank also won the TVL title for girls, while Ripon finished in second and Escalon in third.

Ripon’s Cynthia Castillo (21:34), Jessica Carmona (21:40) and Ana Hermosillo (21:43) finished up sixth through eighth, respectively. Analisa Rangel’s 22:52 was good enough for 12th place.

For the boys side, Riverbank also won the team title, while Hughson finished second. Ripon rounded out the top three.

Riverbank’s Luis Figueroa’s 16:31 was good enough for first, while Hughson’s Zach Morrett (16:39) and Adrian Salazar (16:59) of the Bruins rounded out the top three.

Ripon’s Alex Norling took fourth place with a 17:01. Jose Munoz was the Indians’ next top finisher coming in ninth at 17:32.

Antonio Pelaez (18:08), Kyle Bailey (18:09) and Brent White (18:14) rounded out the top 20.

Christian Pelaez (11:52) and Sabino Brooks (11:53) finished second and third at the TVL boys lower-level championship meet for the two-mile competition.

Hughson’s Carson Boice (11:50) took first place, but Ripon’s Isaiah Perez rounded out the top-five placers with an 11:59.
