How ‘bout them Cowboys!

All four Manteca Cowboys teams are advancing to the second round of the DYSA NorCal playoffs.

Mason James had a big day for the varsity squad in a 36-20 victory. The JV and starts teams blanked the Tokay Tigers, 42-0 and 33-0, respectively. The undefeated rookies had four rushers compile at least 80 rushing yards apiece in a 55-14 rout of the Galt Hawks.


James spearheaded Manteca (7-3) with 105 yards on 12 carries, scoring on a 29-yard scamper and three two-point conversion kicks.

Joseph Espinosa racked up most of his total yardage on a 39-yard score, finishing with five rushes spanning 57 yards. Vincent Ferro added a 3-yard TD run, and Brayden Hardcastle had 49 yards on eight carries.

Tyler Slaughter recorded a defensive touchdown — a 40-yard return after stripping the Lodi ball carrier. La’Fonzo Mackson and Espinosa each turned in eight tackles. Cruz Padilla added five.

Junior varsity

The once-beaten JV Cowboys were led by the all-around effort of Mathew Pilkay. He racked up 105 all-purpose yards, scoring twice including one on a forced fumble he scooped up and returned. Pilkay also recorded five tackles.

Jordan Doyle pounded the Tokay Tigers defense for 119 rushing yards and two touchdowns. On defense he had four tackles and a sack.

Quarterback Manny Rodriguez threw for 80 yards and a touchdown to Andrew Sena (60 yards receiving). Sena also returned a fumble 10 yards for another score while totaling five tackles on defense.

Julian Scoz added seven tackles for the defense, while Gabriel Vallotton contributed five tackles and two forced fumbles.


The Cowboys trampled Tokay with their punishing running game led by Alex Scoz’s 158 yards and three touchdowns.

Isaac Scoz grinded out 98 yards and a touchdown. Nick Luna added his own touchdown jaunt along with 56 yards. Daris Doyle ran for 45 yards.

Alex Cervantes and Noel Ruzaga collected seven and six tackles, respectively. Josiah Lott recorded two quarterback sacks and caused a fumble.


Kimoni Stanley highlighted Manteca’s balanced attack with 150 yards and four touchdowns on just 10 rushes. Signal caller Eric Morales needed just two carries to amass 105 yards and two TDs. He also threw for 94 yards.

Daniel Morales collected 128 total yards, which included a 46-yard touchdown run and 48 receiving yards on two catches. Jayden Tanforan contributed eight carries and 98 yards to the onslaught. Adam Sena (3 rushes, 30 yards) ended the game with a touchdown and ensuing conversion run.

Nicco Cedolini helped set the tone defensively with a first-quarter interception that he ran back 30 yards. His eight tackles led all Cowboys. Joey Aguirre chipped in seven stops, and Adam Garcia had four to go with a sack. Justin Mount was a late-game replacement who made an immediate impact, coming up with two sacks.
