MJC Fall Choral Concert set for Friday

MODESTO — The Modesto Junior College Concert Choir will present a Fall Choral Concert on Friday, Nov. 8, at 7:30 p.m.  in the Main Auditorium  on the East Campus, 435 College Avenue.  The event is open to the public, and parking and admission are free.

 The Concert Choir is celebrating the 90th anniversary of its founding this year, making it the college's oldest performing group in the MJC Music Department.  The 35-member choir is conducted by long-time MJC professor, Dr. Stephen Stroud and accompanied at the piano by staff accompanist Dr. Yan Yan Chan.

 The choral program will include Come Where My Love Lies Dreaming by Stephen Foster; Panis Angelicus by Cesar Franck; Salvation Is Created by Pavel Tschesnokoff; If With All Your Heart You Truly Seek Me from "Elijah" by Felix Mendelssohn, featuring choral tenor soloist Matthew Hanham; Agnus Dei  from "Requiem" by Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart; How Lovely is Thy dwelling Place from "A German Requiem" by Johannes Brahms, and Amen by Jester Hairston featuring choral baritone soloist Saturnino Mahusay. 

 In addition to the Concert Choir, solos and duets will be performed by advanced vocal students from the classes of Dr. Duana Demus-Leslie.  This part of the program will include tenor soloist Justin McDaniel performing Per la gloria d'adorarvi from “Griselda” by Giovanni Bonocini; Shamiram Ghasheh Pour and Adam Harker singing the duet Crudel perche finora from “Le Nozze di Figaro” by Mozart, and soloist Aneka Torres performing Batti Batti from “Don Giovanni” by Mozart.
