Joe Franklin Parks, 72, passed away with his family by his side on Friday, Dec. 12, 2008. He was born April 26, 1936 in Qulin, MO, to the late Fred and Della Parks. Joe resided in Lathrop for over 38 years and worked as a carpenter for PG&E for over 30 years before retiring in 1995. He lives behind his children, Bill Parks and wife Sondra of Valley Center, Gary Parks and wife Shirley of Valley Springs, Joann Parks and life partner Jamie Turnage of Madera, and Angie Clevenger of Manteca; grandchildren, Michael Clevenger of Manteca, Gary Parks and Brandon Parks, both of Valley Springs, Sarah Piper of Tracy, and Sabrina Piper of San Diego; siblings, Zelma Gordon and husband Raymond of Brosley, MO, Mary Yeley of Maynard, AR, Marion Parks & wife Pat of Davis, OK, Carol Maevers and husband Joe of Festus, MO, Esther Grobe and husband Vernon of Hermann, Mo, Diane Marsden, Paul Parks and wife Connie, all of Hillsboro, MO, Larry Parks and wife Dinah of Poplar Bluff, MO, and DJ Gross of Hampton View, MO.
Joe was a devoted husband, father and grandfather. He loved his family dearly and never let the distance keep him from staying in touch with all of them. Joe had a tremendous personality, great sense of humor and enjoyed being ornery. He loved to tease and give everyone a hard time, but had a heart of gold. He’d give the shirt off his back to anyone who was in need. Joe was an avid car collector; his passion for classic cars is indescribable. A lot of guys build cars just to show them; not Joe. He restored them, and then drove them. Whether it was hauling stuff here and there, work or cross country adventures to see his family, his classic cars were built to drive. He was a member of the Early Ford V-8 Club, DeSoto Club, and Central Valley Hot Rod Association. He was an amazing man; he will be missed dearly by his family and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his cherished wife of 47 years, Ethel Parks.
P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home is handling the arrangements. Visitation is being held Thursday, Dec. 18, from 1 to 5 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son Funeral Home. Funeral services will follow on Friday, Dec. 19, at 1 p.m. at P.L. Fry & Son, followed by a committal at East Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be sent to The American Cancer Society, 207 E. Alpine Ave., Stockton, CA 95204.
