Hilmar capped an undefeated run through the Trans-Valley League season with Tuesday’s four-game win (23-25, 25-19, 25-9, 25-23), but host Ripon gave the Yellowjackets another scare.

The Indians (8-4 TVL) nearly upset them on the road on Oct. 10 but came up short in a five-game barnburner (15-25, 28-3, 25-23, 25-22, 10-15).

Paige Goodger (20 kills), Danny Arteaga (19 digs), Melanie Wilderson (4 aces) and Kristen Carhart (3 blocks) led Ripon on senior night. Jourdy Ricther pitched in with 32 assists.

Hilmar (12-0 TVL, 34-7 overall) was anchored by its tandem of 6-foot-2 juggernauts Emily Baptista (31 kills) and Brittney Fielder (4 blocks).

“I am more than proud of my four seniors,” Ripon coach Adrienne Uecker said. “Mel, Paige, Danny and Kristen all played very well and gave it their all. I’m going to miss them so much.”

The Sac-Joaquin Section playoffs begin on Thursday. Brackets will be released by the section this afternoon on www.cifsjs.org. Ripon qualifies as the third-place finisher in the TVL.
