Manteca Jr. Buffs varsity team advances in playoffs

The Manteca Jr. Buffaloes’ varsity youth football team opened up Cen-Cal postseason play on Saturday against the Turlock Vikings and eliminated them 38-8.

Michael Frisby led the Jr. Buffs with 83 yards on 10 carries, including a 15-yard touchdown in the first half. Ferrin Manuleleua ran for 64 yards and had three tackles defensively.

Seth Owings scored three touchdowns from 26, 12 and 18 yards out on 11 carries for 79 yards. Gino Campiotti had two carries for 18 yards at quarterback, while Jacob Peterson had three carries for 20 yards, including a 17-yard third-quarter touchdown.

Presley Keltner had two interceptions and four tackles. Kyle Reis and Kyle Rachels both had two tackles, while Caden Ramsey had six tackles to lead the defense.

Manteca’s varsity team will face the Oakdale Stampedes Saturday in Oakdale at 7 p.m., with the winner advancing to the Super Bowl the following weekend.

The Manteca Jr. Buffs rookie squad were defeated by the Turlock Vikings, 30-12 last Saturday.

Daniel Rushing led the offense with two touchdowns on six carries and had two sacks. Adam Barrera and David Hennemann combined for three catches from Colton Stonum, who also had an interception and three tackles.

Cole Ramsey led the defense with four tackles, while Barrera had a sack and two tackles. Jared Gonzalez and Hennemann had three tackles apiece. Jesse Lopez had a sack and three tackles and Bryson McMichael tallied three tackles and had a fumble recovery.
