If the Ripon and Ripon Christian volleyball teams are to meet again in the playoffs, it would have to be in the semifinal round of the Sac-Joaquin Section Division IV tournament.

And they need to get through some very good teams to make it happen.

Four-time Southern League champion Ripon Christian (15-4) is seeded seventh and hosts No. 10 Amador (16-11) next Tuesday. Meanwhile, No. 11 Ripon hits the road to face No. 6 Los Banos, which holds the Western Athletic Conference crown. All matches start at 7 p.m.

Brackets were released by the SJS on Wednesday. No Manteca Unified school qualified for the postseason.

Ripon has to feel good about its chances of scoring another first-round upset. The Indians hosted Los Banos for their final pre-league contest on Sept. 19 and won in five games. The winner of the rematch gets No. 3 Bear River (18-14) or No. 14 Marysville.

Last season, Ripon stunned then-No. 5 Summerville to set up a historic first postseason showdown with neighboring rival Ripon Christian, which swept the cross-town contest en route to making a sixth straight section final appearance.

The Knights own a section-leading 15 section titles, all in Division V. They tangle with an Amador club that shared the second-place spot in the Mother Lode League. Trans-Valley League champion Hilmar (34-7), the No. 2 seed, will likely await the winner.

There are six conference champions in this 15-team bracket, including top-seeded Sonora (24-6) of the Valley Oak League, No. 4 Calaveras (18-6) of the MLL and No.  8 West Campus (25-6) of the Golden Empire League.
