Spooner, Norling & Curtright in top 10

Haley Silva and Josh Spooner of Sierra, Ellie Waters and Alex Norling of Ripon and Brendon Curtright of Weston Ranch finished in the top 10 of the Sac-Joaquin Subsection Cross Country championships Saturday at Frogtown in Angels Camp. 

 Spooner finished second on the 3-mile course in 16 minutes, 29 seconds and led the Timberwolves to an eighth-place finish in Division III. The top 10 teams and top 10 individuals not on those teams qualify for the Section Championships on Saturday in Folsom. Manteca finished 10th in boys Division III led by Brandon Galan (17:21) who finished 23rd.

 Silva’s fourth place (20:01) led the Timberwolves girls to a sixth-place finish. Manteca finished eighth with Harleen Pabla (20:53) finishing 15th.

 Waters finished fourth (20:15) in Division IV as did her Indians. Norling also finished fourth (17:12) and the Indian boys were sixth. The Weston Ranch girls finished third and were led by Iris Castillo (22:09).

 Curtight was 10th in Division IV boys (17:28). Other individual qualifiers in Division IV were Lathrop’s Sierra Downum (37th, 22:32) and  Zack Ormonde (37th, 18:30).

 The Ripon Christian girls placed fifth in Division V with Courtney Bloemhof (24:50) leading the way at 14th.  Jake Goeringer finished 35th (20:43) and was an individual qualifier for the Knights boys.

 In the lower-level competition the Manteca boys placed third in the Sophomore Division III and the Weston Ranch boys in Sophomore Division IV. Brett Kovacs (11:46) and Hector Patron (11:56) went 1-2 for the Buffaloes on the 2-mile course and Alec Araquel was sixth (13:16) for the Cougars.

 In competition other than varsity, the top six teams advance to the Section Championships and the Ripon freshman boys just made it with a sixth-place finish and were led by Christian Pelaez (12:36) who finished fifth. Nicholas Curtright of Weston Ranch (12:20) finished second and Juan Diaz of Lathrop (13:01) 14th.

 All other qualifiers were individual qualifiers. In the frosh/soph Division II girls Sierra’s Nancy Enriquez (15:17) was 20th, Crystal Baltazar (15:58) of Lathrop 23rd and Weston Ranch’s Vanessa Vega (16:05) 25th. 

 In Junior Varsity Division 3-4-5, Sierra’s Carlos Campos (19:33) was 23rd in the boys and teammate Sammy Kizlin (20:19) 35th. For the girls from Manteca, Chelsea Gomez Manteca (24:15) was 18th and Abigail Mayen (24:16) 19th.

 Sierra’s Trevor Ryan (12:55) was 13th in the Freshman Division III boys and teammate Arish Balasubramenie (13:49) finished 31st.
