A Sacramento area man that brutally killed his mother and has been confined to the a California mental hospital since 2006 could soon be a Manteca resident.

According to The Sacramento Bee, Ronald Benjamin Toppila, 73, was deemed no longer dangerous last week by a Sacramento judge and will soon be heading to a transitional living facility on South Airport Way – just blocks away from the Sierra High School campus.

Toppila was incarcerated for slashing his 86-year-old mother 52 times with a box cutter and breaking her ribs, jaw and larynx, but was found not guilty by reason of insanity after doctors discovered that he was acting out in a psychotic episode.
