Editor Manteca Bulletin,

I would like to thank the Manteca Quilter’s Guild for the kind and generous donation. For the 3rd year, this group of industrial women has donated several hundred lap quilts to our needy students.  This year they added hand-knit scarves and hats for cold weather protection and hand made back packs and pillow cases so students have a place to store and carry their belongings when in transient circumstances. With these items we provide packets to give to students who also need clothing or school supplies.

The ladies of the Quilter’s Guild invited us to see their weekly production where approximately 10 to 20 women work for several hours with companionable conversation, machines whirring.  Each of the women has their own special items and way of construction, yet the products are all charming and made of lovely fabrics.  They use donated or left over material to construct their items for the many Manteca Unified School District students and families in crisis all without wasting an inch!

I would invite anyone in the community who finds themselves with leftover material to donate it to the Manteca Quilter’s Guild. It will go to a good cause, if not to an MUSD student then perhaps to a new baby in San Joaquin General’s nursery.

These ladies are quietly contributing to the community touching the lives of many, meeting weekly and sewing quilts of love.  These brightly colored items bring smiles of delight and hugs to the faces of many of our children.  We are so grateful for their contribution and feel blessed to be recognized and honored by their skill and talent.

Thank you to the Manteca Quilter’s Guild!  Every quilt has a story and so does every seamstress!

On behalf of the quilters, donations of material can be dropped off at MUSD Health Services, 311 E. North, Manteca CA 95336.

Sincerely and on behalf of MUSD’s students,

Caroline Thibodeau RN, FNP, MHS

Director of Health Services

Manteca Unified School District
