Editor, Manteca Bulletin,

The kick-off to the Salute for Service murals honoring the men and women who have served our great country over the last 100 years was inspiring. The “EagleHearts” mural was dedicated on Veterans Day with over 140 people in attendance! “EagleHearts” is the first of five planned murals for the Manteca Bedquarters wall.

“EagleHearts” evokes a strong feeling of patriotism and empathy for those who serve. I overheard a comment from an out of area visitor who viewed the mural prior to the dedication. She said, “ ...tears came to my eyes. I was overwhelmed with emotion.” Hearing that comment made me feel we accomplished our goal of honoring those who serve.

Thank you Aida Marinas. She served all who attended a fabulous Filipino cuisine buffet. Through donations from those who dined, Aida kick started the fund raising for the next veterans’ mural.

A special thanks goes to Ron Cruz for all of his tireless efforts. A big shout-out goes to Bill Barnhart, Fred Gallegos, Alan Petersen, and Roger LePresle. These five volunteers spent five days installing the mural. Leon Sucht, Terri Pasquini, Bob Busser and John Long of Economy Signs also helped the crew out. Don Dussau of Minnie Deans Painting donated his time and equipment to coat the mural with UV and a sacrificial anti-graffiti coating. Dave Gordon who oversaw the installation and Hertz Equipment Rental from French Camp

Our community cannot thank Jessie Marinas, the artist, enough for this wonderful piece of artwork added to our outdoor art gallery.

To all of the other volunteers not mentioned above who helped bring this project to fruition we owe a big thank you, too.

Now the hard work begins. Our community needs to raise the $100,000 needed to fund the other four murals that are part of this massive undertaking. Yes, this is a lofty goal. The first step is always the most difficult and with “EagleHearts” completed the journey is underway.

Please consider donating to this special project. Donations made to the Manteca Mural Society are tax deductible. Donations may be sent to: Manteca Mural Society P.O. Box 1666 Manteca, CA 95336.
