A Manteca man was sentenced on Friday to 165 years to life in prison for a multitude of sexual misconduct charges stemming from exchanges he had with two children.

Mauro Alvarez Lopez Jr., 51, was convicted on Sept. 12 of committing multiple lewd acts on a child under 14 years of age, aggravated sexual assault of a child, rape of a child and various enhancements relating to the sexual assault of children. The names of the two victims are being withheld to protect their privacy because of their age.

Lopez Jr. was arrested in December of 2011 following an investigation by Manteca Police Department officers and detectives. Officer Mark Rangel, Detective Mike Keener and Sergeant Gregg Beall teamed up to investigate the charges, and Deputy District Attorney Claire Van Vuren of the San Joaquin County Child Abuse and Sexual Assault Unit was in charge of the prosecution.

Lopez will soon be transferred from the San Joaquin County Jail, where he is currently being held on $3 million bail, to the California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation. He will likely spend the rest of his life in prison.

In a similar case Thomas E. Aguero, Jr., of Manteca was sentenced to 10 years in federal prison for distributing child pornography, according to the U.S. Attorney’s Office.  Aguero was arrested in mid June of 2012.
