Cowboys’ rookies fall to Buccaneers in Super Bowl

ELK GLOVE — The Manteca Cowboys rookies had just two hurdles to overcome on Saturday in the DYSA NorCal Super Bowl against the Tracy Buccaneers – hold on to the football, and stop Tracy running back Trevor Pope.

 The Cowboys coughed the ball up four times, and Pope posted five touchdowns on the way to a 43-19 win at Cosumnes Oaks High School  for the DYSA NorCal championship and the two five-foot trophies that go to the victor.

 Kimoni Stanley was the workhorse for Manteca, gaining 83 yards on 12 carries with a 1-yard touchdown run. Eric Morales (seven carries, 44 yards) ran for a 15-yard touchdown and threw a 15-yard touchdown pass to Vincent Gomez.

Romeo Mahan made eight tackles for the Cowboys. Stanley, Joey Aguirre and Nicco Cedolini added six stops each and Morales five.


The Cowboys trailed Delta Valley-Antioch by just a touchdown going into the fourth quarter only for the Wolf Pack to score twice in the final period for a 19-0 win.

Alex Scoz had 89 yards for Manteca with Nic Luna adding 28 yards and B.J. Davis 25.

Alex Cervantes led the Cowboys defense with six tackles. Isaac Scoz, Semaj Moore and Matt Wilcox made four stops each and Angel Ramirez had three.
